The Workers Insurance Association is the representative body for the insurers who write workers' compensation in New South Wales. Its members are the insurers, self-insurers and specialists who run the scheme day to day. Its second audience is everyone else: injured workers, employers, brokers and reporters who need to understand how the scheme works. One website, run out of Sydney, has to serve both.
The two audiences want opposite things: a member wants the submission, the briefing and the numbers, while a worker wants to know what to do next, in plain words. Rather than split the site in two, we sorted it by job. A start-here row on the home page points at insurer return-to-work results, the free industry tools and the latest policy work. Members-only documents sit in the same library as the public ones and are labelled as such.
Most of the public side is tools. A guided version of the NSW worker's injury claim form walks through the questions one at a time and hands back a completed PDF to check, sign and send. A scheme glossary explains NSW terms in plain language with links back to the source. A separate public education page covers what to ask before spinal fusion surgery, with a health disclaimer under it.
The rest of the site is the association's own material. Policy positions, member briefings and the state of the industry report each show their format, file size and page count before you open them. Learning and media sections carry workshops and hearing recordings. The type is a display serif and the colours are black, lime and indigo.
